The Rusty Bucket

When last week’s houseguest was driving into Manhattan and offered to drop me off somewhere, I accepted but then directed him to take a detour so I could take a look at the progress on the new Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. It is pretty dynamic architecturally and, I must say, damned impressive however, and this is a capitalized HOWEVER, they have chosen the current chic material for the façade of natural rust. I mean real rust, not just the color of it. I hate it and I’m fairly certain, when the material starts staining the sidewalk and everything else, the majority of the hoi polloi will agree. But, of course, we polloi’s never had a say in the first place, but at least we recognize a rusty bucket when we see one.

The other bit of misguided artistry connected to this building is the choice of the logo for the Brooklyn Nets basketball team; whose relocation from Newark, NJ to Brooklyn, NY was the basic, guiding reason for erecting the building in the first place. There are some things a minority owner (rapper Jay-Z) needs to butt out of; one of those being logo design. It is uninspired at best and, at worst, boring!   He/they need(s) to take a look at the logo for the Miami Heat (for instance), get some real on, be honest with themselves and hire a professional graphic designer. We Netz fan-boyz wantz us some pizzazz!
